I’ve learned happiness is a portfolio I can manage and grow. I invest in faith, relationships, phys & mental health, and meaningful work.

I grew up youngest in large family. Life taught me there would always be someone wittier, prettier, tidier, thinner, wiser than me. I call it “the er factor”; errr (low growl). I didn’t much like being bested in every arena; but never coming in First did teach me to develop character instead. “Character” just might be the best “er” word there is. Then I got older and with maturity came the realization that being myself, just me, is fabulous. No er necessary. I love this about being 56 <3
How do you stay fabulous?Being authentic, while remaining kind, aka fabulous, is a process! Now that I have identified what’s important to me, I understand that I’ll need to keep reinvesting in my happiness quadrant, no matter how old I get. I do it by loving my animals & my people, caring for other animals & their people, practicing mindfulness through yoga & other daily activities, eating healthy, and staying grounded in faith & gratitude. Because the word “love” is best when it’s used as an action verb.
What would you do with the $40,000?The plight of abandoned pets can be reversed through education, partnerships and ordinance enforcement. After tithing & donating to NBCF, I will use prize money to fund advocating, partnering and caring for abandoned dogs in Texas. I’m also getting my neck lifted because it’s dragging me down. Ugh.
