As I've aged, I've understood that change is the rich tapestry of who I am. I AM always in transition—every part of me—my body, relations, roles, jobs, passions. In my younger years, because my path differed from men, I thought there was something odd about me. Aging allowed me to find the freedom to embrace my whole self. To lead with my full range of emotions and abilities. To find freedom in self-compassion and an unapologetic connection to myself. I am grateful to be a woman in my sixties.
How do you stay fabulous?About ten years ago, recovering from the naive idea that I could change the world, I began a deep study of well-being. I learned to meditate, notice my present moment, practice gratitude, and find self-compassion. These practices helped me learn to stand with and withstand life's challenges and joys. With this foundation and the support of family and friends and an amazing therapist, I found I could trust myself as I transitioned from married to widowed, psychologist to fashion designer.
What would you do with the $40,000?Athletic brands aren’t thinking about women who are my age or even women who are 40. Although we are still athletes, we are left to sift through clothing designed for 20- & 30-year-olds. With Saltie Rose, I want to give women many options for their bodies as they are, not as they used to be. I want women to show up at Pickleball or fitness classes in clothing designed for confidence and fashion. Our clothing should reflect our spirit and let the world know we are a force to be reckoned with.
