Sophia

I co-parent my 3 kids with their gay Dad who's my best friend. I work two jobs like lots of women and I volunteer.

What do you love about being over 40?

I like that line I heard "I have no more fucks to give". Being an Autistic -ADHD woman diagnosed later in life I am exhausted by masking. I really tried NOT to be my authentic self most of my young life - I might come off as rude, rigid, not accommodating or disrespectful, all very bad impressions to make as a young woman. Suddenly all my quirks are cute in older age. I'm still overlooked and undervalued but you know what - I am giving myself space to get angry about it and take action.

How do you stay fabulous?

I go to the gym 3 times a week and make effort to be presentable - it boosts my self esteem. I love doing my makeup and I don't apologize for going to a casual event looking like a pin-up gurl. Loving my kids and spending quality time with them also helps.

What would you do with the $40,000?

I'd like to make a T-shirt line (manufactured in TX preferably or the US) with one liners and graphic images all about woman making space for their feelings, their thoughts, their dreams. I'd like to reach out and help bring a voice equally to younger women and to women like me. I think about my daughter (5) all the time - I want her to have a voice like I didn't. I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 12 but grew up in a cult which meant that I had to change those interests to conform.
