I love empowering young women to embrace their beauty and their flaws because we all have both! I also find being 57 affords me experience and a platform to share my struggles that I have learned to embrace because the difficulties make me authentic and relatable to others. I love this stage in my life, I have the privilege of being a part of my daughter’s college experience and I stay a bit younger raising our foster son who is now our adopted son! I am grateful to be over 40!
How do you stay fabulous?The key for me is letting go of the false expectations I had of myself. I let go of battling my weight. I let go of the societal pressure to wear designer clothing and have my nails and hair done at all times. I learned to love myself and every flaw I have because my imperfections are part of me but do not define me. I stay fabulous in spirit not in appearance. I think my definition of fabulous is not the same as others and it is not the definition I allow others to impose upon me.
What would you do with the $40,000?My female role models are a huge part of who I am and an even bigger part of who my daughter is becoming, so I think celebrating them would be on my list. Our (adopted) son is a child of intense trauma. His start to life was horrific and more must be done for others like him. One way to accomplish that is to equip our public schools with resources and adequate training for all staff. Public schools are where children of trauma can learn that they are more than what others did to them.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Fab Over 40, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
