Greetings and love! I am Makeda, wife and mother of 5 beautiful ones! Artistic Director of the ONLY youth sekere ensemble in the country!
We would like to thank you for supporting Makeda Kemit in this year's competition. Your support helps us contribute to the National Breast Cancer Foundation who provides early detection, education, and support services to those affected by breast cancer.
Being over 40 has connected me to myself in ways I didn’t know possible! I am more self aware than I have ever been, confident in my abilities, and humble in the knowing that I still have a lot to learn. All the while watching in amazement,my children and the ones I hold dear, grow up in front of my eyes. I can see clearly how my choices have impacted my destiny and the destinies of those around me. It is awesome to truly enjoy the sweetness in life through my work with the youth and the arts.
How do you stay fabulous?I believe that being fabulous is beautifully intentional! I pray every morning for myself, my family, and my community . I communicate my appreciation for waking up, and set my intentions for the day. I do something that I WANT to do consistently. This reminds me that life is to be enjoyed. So why not be as healthy as possible while doing it? I move my body often, surround myself with good intentioned people, keep my connection to the youth and make sure to smell good (it helps) lol!
What would you do with the $40,000?I asked my children this question. Their immediate response was to help ensure that our home is a place where our family can live for generations to come! My father, whom my children were extremely close to, just transitioned last year from lung cancer. He passed the house we live in now down to me as it was his dream to do so! It means everything to me that it stays in our family forevermore. It warmed my heart to hear my children feel the same. This money would help in this endeavor.
