Lorrainel Goodman

At 62, I’m thriving in my dream job as the CEO of a music academy, nurturing youth choristers in a joyful and supportive environment.

What do you love about being over 40?

I love that I am still alive & healthy! You see, my mother died at 48 from a genetic cancer-- a condition that I inherited. So, would I make it to 48? When I did, I pivoted from a Broadway career to nonprofit arts management, marrying my passion for music and arts education, with management. Today, at 62, I proudly serve as Executive Director of a music academy as I embrace life, inspire youth, and create joy through music. I cherish my health, my instincts, and the wisdom I've gained.

How do you stay fabulous?

ZUMBA!! I love rocking out to Latin beats, Bollywood, and even contemporary pop in a roomful of (mostly) other Fab40 women, many of whom have become good friends. I also recently adopted a very playful near-puppy – watching her outrace the pack at the nearby dog run is one of the great joys of my life – no matter how stressful the day, seeing her sheer exuberance makes the day end well.

What would you do with the $40,000?

Easy: I would travel: see the wonders of the Galapagos Islands, take a cruise down the Nile, and go on a Safari -- all with first-class accommodations. Anything left over I would contribute to my Academy's scholarship fund, which provides tuition assistance to aspiring musicians who cannot afford our tuition rates.
