What do you love about being over 40?

My life truly began to blossom after I turned 40. In my 20s, Ernie, my husband of just one week was involved in a catastrophic accident. I had given up on having a family. But 36, I met Steve. At 37, I became a mom for the first time, and at 41, I welcomed my second child. My children, now grown, are amazing individuals who show courage every day, making me a very proud mom. Now, 25+ years and two children later, we may be unwed, but we are married in our hearts.

How do you stay fabulous?

I strive to stay positive and find life truly wonderful. I embrace playfulness and silliness, and my sense of humor has sustained me. Despite my life with Steve and caring for Ernie, who had been in health facilities for 39 years, I’ve faced difficulties—especially after Ernie sadly passed away in June. Without Steve, I’m not sure I would have survived it. Through out life I have made an effort to be kind and helpful to others, and that has rewarded me in ways I could never have imagined.

What would you do with the $40,000?

I would give $10,000 to each of my children, who are 27 and 23. My daughter, a newlywed, is building her own life with her husband in Texas while my son is starting his own successful business and is in need of an investment to expand. With the remaining $20,000, I would finally marry Steve, with my daughter as matron of honor and my son as best man. We would go on a family honeymoon together and start a new chapter.
