Connect What do you love about being over 40?

I wish it hadn't taken me so long, but I love that I am more comfortable in my own skin, less self-conscious and less worried about what other people think of me. I have finally realized the benefits of slowing down, breathing and being in the moment, which makes me much more appreciative of the life I have, even when the cards dealt to me are crappy! All we really have is right NOW, and at this age, I have learned to really soak in the now, and release the past & the future.

How do you stay fabulous?

I read A LOT! It keeps my mind open and gives me much-needed perspective & insight. My dog Emmet helps keep me in shape, which balances my mood and makes life lighter somehow. I keep a journal to make sense of what goes on in my head, but most importantly, I lean heavily on my sense of humor. If I wasn't able to laugh at myself, it would be even harder to get out of bed in the mornings, knowing that everyday I wake up, I will be an addict, and everyday I wake up, I will have brain cancer.

What would you do with the $40,000?

I would definitely open a 529 account with the money so we can put our teenage son through college! He is such a bright kid, and I would love for him to be able to concentrate on his studies and not have to work to put himself through higher education. I would also dedicate a portion to hiring a professional to help the food justice nonprofit I work for become authentically anti-racist & community centric. We know better; now, it is time to DO better!
