In a word, perseverance. I am 55, survived a disability, restrictive upbringing, and more to have a life many said was off limits to me.

I appreciate being more self-aware and acknowledging some rules and habits need to be broken to be my best self. My experiences as younger person made self-conscious, and I bought the fact that I was somebody broken who needed to be fixed. I had scarcity mentality in how I lived my life because I was conditioned to believe I wasn't enough. Now, I know better, and I don't skimp on what's necessary to look and feel my best.
How do you stay fabulous? The process has been a trial-and-error situation since my 20s, but I mix different modalities to get results that truly work for me: yoga, walking, hiking, meditation, journaling, a neck lift after turning 50, smaller food portions (no small feat when you are a food writer), cutting back dramatically on liquor since 2020 (even as I made my name by covering wine and spirits since 2002), and getting higher quality sleep. It's not just about investing in myself--It's about doing it smarter.
What would you do with the $40,000?I would love to put together a podcast or social media outlet for neurodiverse women--and any woman, for that matter-- empowering them to embrace their differences (working titles: "The Neurodiverse Jetsetter" or "Do I Make You Uncomfortable?"). The goal is to inspire listeners/viewers to own what makes them different rather than mask them. They should be empowered to create and live their dreams, even if some are uncomfortable with "non-conventional" women being successful.
