Despite all the trepidation this year, I have 40 years of life experience. The knowledge and wisdom that I have now, I did not have at 20 nor 30. I trust in myself. Time may not be on my side but I still have dreams. I want to see the world. I want to meet new people, try new things. I want adventures and to be surrounded by love. I want to face this cancer head on and not let it hold me back. And even though it’s taken so much from me already, I’m not done yet, I'm still here.
How do you stay fabulous?My family, friends. The people in my life have been the only sense of normalcy I’ve had this entire year. From the moment I felt the lump in my breast to treatment. When I lost my job and was stuck in a hospital for a month, my family and friends have been by my side. As my world slowly crumbled and unfolded the people I love stayed with me every step of the way. And that’s how I’ve stayed fabulous. Even with cancer, I can see that I’m still blessed. I’m blessed with love and that’s fabulous.
What would you do with the $40,000?$40,000 would be used for my cancer care and some independence. This past July, my employer had to let me go. Along with losing a 6 figure salary, I will lose my health insurance in the new year. I’m currently collecting social security disability benefits at $2,200 a month. The unfortunate reality of this country is that even with Obama care, NY Medicaid will not cover any of my existing doctors at Sloan Kettering or MD Anderson. I need the best insurance in order to get the best treatment.
