In my forties, I believed strongly in my ability to accomplish great things. However, after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in my fifties, I discovered that living in harmony with myself and others brings much greater joy. Now, I seek to surround myself with people I can learn from and grow with, rather than striving to be the best. My focus is on the joy of learning and personal growth. This shift in perspective has brought me deep fulfillment and a fabulous way of living.
How do you stay fabulous?My belief that it’s possible to accomplish the improbable has shaped my life. Despite leaving school in 9th grade, I earned a PhD in sociology. After a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, I used meditation, Reiki, and traditional medicine, and I’m now 10 years cancer-free. Early retirement led me to become both a landlord and an artist, even hosting my art show in 2024. I’m writing a book and traveling the world, proving that with belief and persistence, even the impossible can become reality.
What would you do with the $40,000?I'm investing $40,000 in an editor to help me find a publisher for my autoethnography, which examines my life in American culture through sociology. It covers my Jehovah's Witness upbringing, leaving the faith as a teen, and discovering mainstream culture and history through academics. Writing about my healing process with radical honesty, I strive for self-acceptance and openness to change. I hope my story encourages others to accept themselves more fully.
