D’Anna Zamora

I became a Mom at 39, I’ve been a special education teacher for 15 years, and I am passionate about living sober. Every day is a gift.

What do you love about being over 40?

I love the confidence and loving relationship I have found with my body. I struggled with body image as long as I can remember; going on grapefruit diets with my Mom when I was in elementary school. I had thought I would never be a Mom, never be small enough, never feel empowered, never be happy in my own skin. I love that I genuinely love myself now, and am thankful for this body that allows me to do all the amazing things I do every day.

How do you stay fabulous?

I do my nails, I play with my daughter, I have date nights with my husband, I carve pumpkins with my students. I cry when I need to, I laugh every chance I get. I spend as much time outside as I can. I keep the boundaries that keep me healthy. I stopped drinking completely. I give myself grace.

What would you do with the $40,000?

I’d put it towards a down payment for a house. My husband and I are both tenured teachers with graduate degrees, and finding a home that we can afford to purchase here in Southern California is still out of reach. The longest I have lived in one home over the last 18 years is 3 years. The last time we moved I was 6 months pregnant. I’m tired and want stability for my family.
